Fashion Marketing

Hello everybody,
In my blog I’d like to tell you guys how the web is changing the fashion marketing in 2010.
A lot of fashion brands lately use new digital and mobile technologies to engage with consumers. In particular, brands used the location-based social network Foursquare to build buzz around new product launches, like Jimmy Choo’s line of trainers.
The fashion brands released a lot of behind-the-scenes content on the social networks. From blurry mobile snapshots of runway models for a quick picture, to professionally produced short films delivered exclusively on company websites and mobile apps to post it on Facebook and Twitter.
Perhaps the most remarkable development this year was LOFT specifically, LOFT’s Facebook Page. The company’s corporate staff is working with together with facebook so that models that are modeling the clothes can post the pictures on facebook themselves. The media was very positive about this development and there were a lot of reactions from people that were working in the fashion industry.
In my next 2 blogs I’ll tell you about how other brands such as Jimmy Choo proceeded working on a web network in their company.

2 blogs: Brands using social network

Hi everybody,
I promised you all to discuss other brands in their great steps on the web network.
Brands have continued to use social networks for big product launches. This year, the fashion industry was using massive the social network called Foursquare.
But Marc Jacobs was the first major designer to take advantage of the network. During New York Fashion Week in February, Marc Jacobs distributed “Fashion Victim” badges to those who checked in to one of its stores around the country. Four users who checked in to one of its New York stores were also awarded tickets to its runway show, notoriously one of the most difficult to get access to during Fashion Week.
Although Marc Jacobs may have been first, Jimmy Choo’s use of Foursquare was certainly the most creative. Its spring Catch-a-Choo campaign had women running all over London in order to get a pair of the company’s new line sneakers.

This is the advertisement of Jimmy Choo’s trainers hunt!
The company used the platform to check in at various fashionable locales; check-ins were broadcast over Facebook and Twitter, and the first person at each site was getting a free pair of sneakers. Almost 4,000 people participated in the chase, which was judged very positive by the mainstream and online media. Sneaker sales later increased by 33%, according to social media agency FreshNetworks, which designed the campaign.
This is a very good way to attract publicity for your brand or company, I think it’s very smart to combine the social networks in the promotion of some brands.
Also Chanel is in for some free publicity. Chanel created a short film called “Shopping Fever”. This film is produced by Karl Lagerfeld. This film was released to catch Chanel’s style and perception of the fashion industry. The film was send to many social Networks, like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and IOS (for mobile applications). This film had more than 5 million views so far and still counting. This is called free publicity, because the money that was put in making the film, is nothing compared to how much publicity Chanel received.
If you’d like to see the short movie “Shopping Fever” just take a look on this youtube link:

It’s officially a fact now that Social networks have become the victim of marketing tools of a lot of brands. Whether you like it or not, you will see the advertisements or promotions of many companies on your social network page, and I don’t even think it’s a bad thing if you’re interested in these brands, why not?

Beyoncé: House of Deréon

Hiii,
I’m back again, and I would like to dedicate my last blog to my favorite singer all times, Beyoncé Knowles! She is a singer, an actress and a rolemodel. You name it, and she does it! And the most of all she is a great fashionista! I’d like to tell you about the clothing line House of Deréon, where she is the face of. Too bad they don’t sell these clothes in the Netherlands. But I’ve found some pictures on the internet, so I can show you what style the House of Deréon is.

I think these clothes get a lot of buyers not only for the fact that these clothes are nice but also because Beyoncé is the face of this clothing line. This is a very smart marketing tool,  because a lot of fans of Beyoncé actually do buy the clothes of the House of Deréon. I can imagine how much extra profit this brand makes. The only thing Beyoncé has to do is photo shoots and promote the clothing line by wearing the clothes when they select a new collection. I don’t think she determinates what will be in the collection. The designers use her celebrity publicity and so they get more attention for their clothing line. Of course Beyoncé will also get a part of the profit. This is a nice strategy and has a win-win situation. Andddd, the clothes are adorable, if you want to see more take a look on http://www.houseofdereon.com/

fashion democracy and social shopping website

Hello everybody,

This week I found something new in  the area of marketing and fashion.

Theshoppingforecast.com, an innovative new fashion democracy and social shopping website, has just launched. This is a remarkable website, because this website will allow users to browse, comment, vote on and save to their own personal wardrobes, the fashions and trends for the season ahead. It is the first of its kind to highlight the key trends for the season as identified by experts, fashion enthusiasts and the public.
This website will also show what is very popular, and so people can make a decision based on the trends of now.
The website will also provide information about the consumer preferences of women as the fashion buyers for the season ahead.

I think this is absolutely a great marketing tool, this is the chance for designers to see what the consumers prefer and what they would like to see in stores.  Based on this information the designers won’t design clothes that people don’t buy or “fails”. So now they can save the money and focus on the wanted garments in the fashion industry. This website aims to create a fashion democracy that will be a link between female shoppers and retail buyers, so no more puffball skirts!’
Take a look on the website if you’re curious;  Theshoppingforecast.com

America's Next Topmodel!

Hi there!
I watched America’s next top model  a couple times and I was really surprised (again) by the expectations of a model agency. They expect a girl to be 1.80 tall and have a weigh of max. 60! And then they expect  the girl to still look pretty..? How can somebody look pretty when they only eat a slice of bread a day to stay “in shape” . It really amazes me how thin the girls are, and I still can’t understand the standards of the model industry.
Buttt anyways, I like the show America’s next top model. I think why the program became so popular is that they also put a lot of drama in the program. The girls need to argue, fight and gossip. I guess it’s a marketing strategy of the producers of certain programs, just to make the program more attractive to the target, that appear to be girls of my age.
Here you see a picture of the models of this season.

And I also added a picture of Tyra Banks because I like the way she looks and I like her personality in the show. She is very gorgeous, isn't she?

Hello.. Lady Gaga!

Hello everybody,
This blog I’d like to dedicate to Lady Gaga and her outrageous taste of fashion. Though I am not a fan of her music but she does stand out compared to the other celebrity’s. If not with her music then definitely with her outfits. She is particularly known for wearing shocking outfits to the Music Awards and other events. But I must say that her actions are a necessity for in Hollywood everyone is expected to stand out in a certain way. Otherwise you’re boring, the paparazzi won’t snap shots of you, the tabloids won’t write about you and therefore you won’t be famous! I will show you a couple pictures of Lady Gaga and her outrageous outfits!

"The White Versions"

"The Freaky Ones"

"The famous meat dress"

As you can see Lady Gaga is not only creative with her clothes but also with her make-up and her hair!
I’m sure Lady Gaga doesn’t need a lot of Lady Gaga marketing or promotion because everyone remembers her. Her style and voice are unforgettable.

Lady Gaga also won an award for the best music clips, I can’t really agree with that because her clips also shocked a lot of people. In some of her clips you see blood, or extremely naked people. I don’t think that is suppose to be on the television during day time. I also think that the reason why she won the award and is so popular, is because they are so shocking! Well, enough about Lady Gaga hope you all enjoyed watching the pictures.

ZARA

Hi people,
I really like to talk this time about my FAVOURITE  BRAND ALL TIMES: Z A R A !
Every season we need new clothes. We empty our closets and make room for new nice pieces. This time of the year screams for not just regular clothes, but WARM clothes ! Since we prefer shopping from our sofa instead of walking in the snow and wind, it is even better to shop online.

Therefore, I am very happy with the new Zara webshop! Zara has many great clothing pieces, that’s why it’s one of my favorite stores. 04-11-2010 Zara launched their new online store. I really like the ´cleanness´ of the website and the inspiring lookbook is great too. The website shows the items on a real model in a complete outfit. This way you get a better impression of the clothes you want to buy. What makes it even easier is that you can zoom in on the pictures, for a better look at the fabrics and details. Perfect! I´m not sad anymore if I have to stay in on a cold day, I get warmed up by this nice new website! In fact, when I’m finishing this blog I will order a nice blouse or something for New Years Eve!
